Frosty’s Ice Cream Reopens with New Location, New Owner and Fresh Concept at Shelter Cove Harbour & Marina

A beloved name for sweet treats on Hilton Head Island, S.C., has a fresh new beginning. Frosty’s Ice Cream officially reopened in February under new ownership, with a new name, location, and an exciting vision to delight Hilton Head locals and visitors alike. 

This reimagined Hilton Head Island ice cream shop has moved into the former A&M Provisions space at Shelter Cove Harbour & Marina, bringing with it a fresh, fun and delicious experience. Shelter Cove Harbour & Marina is located across Hwy. 278 from Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort and is easily accessible by car, bicycle or even local trolleys during the season. 

Previously known as Frosty’s Italian Ices and More, the popular spot was a go-to destination for classic ice cream cones, Italian ice, candy and more. Now, with a new owner at the helm, Frosty’s Ice Cream promises to offer an updated menu, expanded flavors and a welcoming atmosphere for families, friends and ice cream lovers of all ages.

New Location, Same Sweet Spirit

The new Frosty’s Ice Cream is located next door to its previous spot, occupying the space once home to A&M Provisions. The move provides a more spacious and inviting setting, perfect for enjoying a cool treat after a day at the marina or a sunset stroll along the waterfront.

A Fresh Take on a Local Favorite

The new owners — Pete and Megan Savarese, along with Scott and Maryanne Laskowitz, owners of neighboring San Miguel’s Mexican Cafe restaurant — bring a passion for crafting memorable desserts and a commitment to delivering high-quality ice cream made with premium ingredients. Guests can expect a rotating selection of traditional favorites alongside innovative seasonal flavors, all served with a friendly smile.

“Don and Linda Rufrano — who are Hilton Head Island locals and have been around for the last 15 years — had Frosty’s at the old location for the last 15 years, and they had quite the following in the Shelter Cove Marina location,” said Megan Savarese. “People, especially for firework nights, would come back just to see them. We’re honored that they trusted us with their business and we hope that we’re able to foster that same environment for people, even though it’s in the new location. Don and Linda definitely created quite the vacation experience for people to come back and visit every year. We’re really grateful for them.”

Another significant change is that Frosty’s Ice Cream is now serving Michigan-based Ashby’s Sterling Ice Cream — a cherished choice among ice cream enthusiasts, crafting premium ice cream that captures the essence of traditional, old-fashioned flavors since 1984. Their commitment to quality is evident in their use of a 14% butterfat recipe, resulting in an ultra-creamy texture that distinguishes their products from standard offerings.  

Ashby’s is dedicated to variety and innovation. With more than 70 unique flavors, including award-winning options like French Vanilla, and Amaretto Cherry, they cater to a wide range of palates, with flavors that are rich in high-quality, natural ingredients, ensuring a delightful experience in every scoop. 

“We are the only place in the area that offers Ashby’s,” said Savarese. “The menu options in terms of the flavor of ice creams that they have are all brand new and people cannot get them anywhere else. That includes Michigan Pothole, the original Mackinac Island Fudge — a couple really cool menu options for ice creams that people can come and get.”
