About The Owner & The Bakery

Chef Philippe Feret is the proud owner of Hilton Head Social Bakery. Born in France, Philippe developed a passion for the food and restaurant industry at a young age. His mother and father owned three bakeries, where he spent much of his childhood helping his parents. Although his knowledge with baking was extensive, he decided to pursue a career as a chef. Phillipe moved to New York and was previously the Executive Chef of the renowned Windows of the World (Twin Towers) Restaurant, Tavern on the Green, The Regency Hotel, and numerous others.

Eventually wanting to leave the big city, Philippe began to search for new locations to start his own business. Originally, Philippe planned to take over his friend’s restaurant in Illinois but visited Hilton Head, and everything changed. He mentioned that after his first visit to the island, he was not looking forward to going back to New York.

When asked if he ever tires of his work, Philippe responded, “For me, it’s not a job. It’s not too much about what I’m going to make; it’s about doing it right and bringing it to the next level, so that was the focus of my career.” What Chef Feret loves most about his job is creating that “wow factor” when customers walk through the door. It doesn’t take much to see his pastries not only look beautiful, but they taste great too!

In 2016, a hopeful Chef Feret purchased the future site of his bakery, but Mother Nature had different plans. Hurricane Matthew hit the island in October and became the most powerful storm of the 2016 Atlantic Hurricane Season. With 87 mph winds and 16.58 inches of rainfall, extensive damage was evident on the island. The bakery was lucky as it did not have any significant damages, but there was water damage throughout the shop. Renovations and repairs were extended, and Hilton Head Social Bakery opened two years later in 2018.

Philippe opened his shop “to make Hilton Head Social Bakery a perfect spot for friends, family, and visitors on this beautiful island.”
